“ Organization tips for artists ” is generally an untouched topic. Some people might consider being unorganized and in chaos as artistic as portrayed in movies/stories. However, in real world, it’s better to be organized in some areas if you are an artist.
Any profession requires some planning and organizing for a smooth operation. If you want to take your art professionally or want to pursue it as a hobby without any hindrance, you can’t ignore the importance of organizing.
Organization tips for artists:
Tip 1:
- Without a doubt, first and foremost is cleaning of the brushes. Whenever, you use your paint brushes, you got to clean them up after use. Accumulation of paint can slowly make the brushes unusable with time. A preliminary wash after every use and a thorough deep clean wash of brush at regular intervals is such a boost to the life time of your brushes. Why? Personally, there is nothing more heart wrenching as an artist then to see a good set of paint brushes becoming unusable too soon.
Tip 2:
- Keep art related stuff stored in proper places. You should know where your paints, brushes, brush cleaners, old rags, canvas, medium, color palette, canvas stapler, canvas roll etc are stored. It’s always a good idea to have all such stuff stored in one room (if you have an artist studio, even better)! You should know precisely what is stored in what bag/box. Why? All this is important because when creativity strikes and you are excited to go ahead and transfer that inspiration on a canvas, you don’t want to change your mood or let that creativity leave you just because you got exhausted searching/arranging for your stuff.
Tip 3:
- Keep a track of what you have it in stock. It’s important to make a note of what’s going to be finished and purchase it beforehand. For instance, nothing could be more frustrating when you have sat down to paint only to realize that the shade you were excited to paint has finished up. Same goes for other art related material like brush cleaners, medium etc. Why? If you are proactive in keeping a check on your art material stock, you are going strong in your game.
Tip 4:
- Be regular with your art. We all have to face some unexpected situations which could delay making art. Still, if we prioritize, we can be more regular and be in a continuous beautiful rhythm of making art. Practice makes a man perfect and same holds true for art. The more you practice; you discover and understand art better. It’s important to show up for your art whether you are feeling inspired or not. Why? If you start, you will take your art to places or even better, your art will take you to places!
