While I was ruminating on the next idea for my painting, I was actively looking for inspiration around. Witnessing peacocks in the nearby locations made me wonder at their beautiful feathers and vibrant colors. Hence, a peacock abstract painting was my next creative venture.

To look at peacocks dancing and welcoming the rain is something to look forward to. Therefore, my intention was to include something related to peacock’s dance. After making the painting “Two Peacocks in The City”; it was time to make another painting dedicated to the pleasant peacocks.

Initial planning of peacock abstract painting:

This time, I wished to make a painting that showed a peacock almost opening its feathers to start dancing. However, the motive was also to depict the peacock in my geometric block style. After some thinking, I came up with the idea of a rough layout.

I chose to keep the neck and the upper portion of peacock’s body curved and realistic. However, I decided to make the feathers geometric and abstract to give a little twist. The color palette chosen for this painting included all the traditional hues found in a peacock.

Painting in oils:

Next was the time to bring the rough layout onto the canvas and start coloring with oils. I worked on this peacock abstract painting in multiple layers of oil paints. This time, the idea was to go with the flow and keep improvising as and when required. I changed some color tones completely as I reached the final stage.

Continuing to paint and improvising

You can also note that the background was kept in such a way that it totally amalgamates with the foreground. It feels like the blocks of the feathers are made bigger and used in the background. My intention was to give a feel that the world around the peacock is also dancing as the peacock decides to dance.

Light and dark tones were deliberately placed in such a way that they give some three dimensional effect. Due to this interplay of light and dark shades, it almost feels like that peacock is emerging in the foreground. The background seemed to be pushed backwards.

Finishing stages of peacock abstract painting:

As I kept on working, there came a time when the peacock abstract painting just felt right and completed.  I entitled this painting “Ready to dance” to show the eagerness of the peacock to celebrate life.
