Moonlit butterfly is a night painting with moon and a butterfly. This painting is an amalgamation of reality and imagination. It’s a painting that sparks joy in subtle ways. This painting celebrates those moments of nature which occur for a very short time but are still so profound!

The reality part, night painting with moon:

The main theme of the painting involves a night scene in which the clouds are moving. In fact, a portion of the moon is somewhat covered by the clouds. Almost everything is grey and black. Fun fact, this view is highly inspired by the balcony view of my house at night.

The imagination part, can you guess it?

Let’s dive into where the imagination joined the painting. While planning this painting, a thought came to me. The thought that it would be wonderful if one could get to see a vivid butterfly in this beautiful night scene. Additionally, the idea that the butterfly should be lit through the moon’s light felt just right for the cohesiveness of the painting. Hence, to fulfill this imagination, I chose to add a butterfly at a spot in the painting.

You can further notice that I took the liberty to make this butterfly in shades of blue. This color was chosen as it was a colour that would pop out in this grey black background just perfectly. The contrast of blue and grey is neither too little nor too much. It’s just the right contrast as desired for this painting.

I am not certain if such a blue butterfly actually exists. Frankly, in this painting, letting go of research and just making a butterfly in the fantasy colours seemed right. After all, it was a butterfly of imagination.

Talking of fantasy butterfly, perhaps you would like to know about a painting entitled “Fantasy Of a Butterfly” based entirely on imagination.

What do you think?

Do you like this interplay of reality and imagination that I did in this oil painting entitled “Moonlit butterfly” of “The Butterfly Series”. Please mention what you think of it in the comments section. I end this blog with a poem dedicated to this night painting with moon and butterfly:

When the night has arrived, it’s time to wind up your day;
However, the heart wishes to take in some more of world’s beauty before slumbering away;
The majestic moon lights up a butterfly just enough to bring a smile your way;
Now that’s a perfect sign for an awaiting brighter day!
