How a certain thing comes to you naturally is a strange thing. For me, making random layouts using blocks comes naturally. I don’t know why I admire making blocks. Maybe, it’s because of the technical education or because of the mindset that everything starts with a building block. Is it my love for cubism or anything else? When an artist makes signature style painting, it’s definitely considered a milestone in the artistic journey.

I am yet to fathom the accurate reason for using so many blocks in so many paintings. It’s strange that whenever I pick a pencil to draw something randomly, I end up drawing blocks aligned in some or the other way. Even though, I have a fair enough knowledge of drawing, it’s strange to mostly draw random blocks if not forced to draw anything. I can somehow say that using blocks as the building structure has become my signature style painting.

Whether this style of using geometrical blocks and partitions in my layouts will always stay with me or keep getting modified is still a mystery! Whether this style is here to stay or will it be just another passing phase? Frankly, I have a feel that this signature style is here to stay. All these doubts will get cleared with time. As of now, I am enjoying the journey and hoping to unravel this mystery with time!

How to make a signature style painting?

According to me, there is no set rule to discover a signature style an artist. It can strike you any time and make you feel at home with yourself. However, having said that, I can definitely tell what worked for me and you can give it a try to see if it works for you:

  • First, learn all the basics and fundamental rules of art.
  • Practice a lot of art from what you have learned. Don’t be in a rush.
  • Next, when you feel you have reached a certain level in learning art the traditional way, then take a paper/canvas and draw/paint something using any medium you want.
  • Don’t think much. Just set yourself free and see what comes naturally to you when there is no particular target.
  • Perhaps you need to wait more or you have just discovered your natural signature style painting!
