Ideas come and go when we are trying to do something creative. However, if something is knocking the door of our heart repeatedly, we have got to pay it attention. That’s what happened with me when I was ruminating over series painting ideas for my next series after “The Butterfly Series”. The decision to paint “Multicoloured” series was an inner voice that I couldn’t ignore.
Reasons I chose to pursue making “Multicoloured” among all the oil painting series ideas:
- Monochromatic looks cool. We all get it. I was just overwhelmed by a bit too much monochromatic going on everywhere. We are not just talking art here but also crockery, fashion, interiors and what not. I have nothing against monochromatic but too much of anything becomes boring after a point. I had myself restricted art to limited palettes in my previous works and now I wanted to expand. “Multicoloured” series was the perfect answer to what I wanted to do next. This painting series ideas was simple yet challenging enough to spark imagination and curiosity.
- Limited colour palettes was something I had done a lot in the past. I wanted to push it further by experimenting with multiple colours in a single canvas. Although traditionally it is not advisable to use lots of colours in a single frame but the rebel in me still wanted to try. I was curious to see if multiple colours can exist on a canvas without overwhelming the eye and still feeling cohesive and balanced and aesthetic. If you are an artist wondering how to work in a series, perhaps you can also consider a particular color palette as your series. It’s one of the simplest series painting ideas that won’t overwhelm you and still provide you with a direction.
- I also found out that what I was trying to accomplish wasn’t new. I came across few artworks which were indeed multicoloured and looked very attractive and intriguing. This further pushed me to make my own multicoloured pieces in my style.
- Now that I have made several paintings of this “Multicoloured” series, I have realised that artworks belonging to this series are not just defined by being multicoloured. They are far beyond that. This series has become a celebration of colours, of different facets of life and a celebration of womanhood. When I trusted my gut to make multicoloured paintings, I didn’t know that it would reveal such important messages to me along the way. These dimensions have given more meaning to this series which is not just defined by colour palette but so much more!

As the journey for this series has taken course, I have come to realise that I was destined to make it. This series means so much more to me than just paintings with multiple colours. Colours are present to tell a greater story, to embrace diversity, to celebrate life and to find unity in diversity.
