Being a painter, I have to keep coming up with ideas for new paintings. For some people, it might seem like a daunting task. It actually is tough sometimes. However, most of the time it’s more of like a game! Keep reading to know more.

The game of looking for ideas for new paintings:

Have you ever used the typical radio in which you have to adjust the frequency? You keep adjusting the frequency by rotating the round dial until you reach your favourite radio station.

For me, looking for ideas for new paintings is somewhat like this frequency adjusting except that here we have to adjust the frequency with the universe.

Syncing with the universe:

When I am syncing with the universe, I observe deeply. I sketch, draw, take snaps of anything and everything that interests me. This is just one way of adjusting frequency.

Other ways include reading books, watching TV, spending time with nature, friends and family, doing daily chores and reflecting on life and my take on it in general and everything in between.

It’s important to adjust frequency with a relaxed state of mind. We get maximum ideas that way and the best ones too.

It’s somehow like training the mind even when we are unaware of it. When I have done my part of adjusting my frequency, it’s time to turn the table.

Time to receive ideas for new paintings..your favourite radio station:

When I need a new idea, I sit with my sketchbook and try coming up with a fresh idea for my painting. I sketch randomly yet consciously and I get an idea most of the time. However, sometimes I may not get my idea.

If I don’t get any idea, I don’t push myself. I might refer my previous sketches or snaps from my mobile to get any idea for abstract/ semi abstract painting. Sometimes I get idea at this stage or through some thought in my mind.

A painting idea can come any time

The most interesting way I get my ideas is when I am doing nothing related to sketching an idea. I might be busy in some other work, reading, walking or even sleeping when the idea strikes on the door. It’s almost like magic when you stop looking for idea consciously and the unconscious mind is still on duty. There are also instances when I ditch my sketch book and jump right onto the canvas with paints and I find my way to a painting.

Having fun with the game of finding ideas for new paintings:

There are so many other ways in which I got ideas for new paintings but the game is quite the same. I keep adjusting my frequency with the universe and it in turn keeps surprising me with ideas even when least expected.
