Festivals and celebrations are like icing on the cake. They add the much required joy and excitement to our lives. There are some colors that are quite vibrant and are synonymous with celebrations. Let me take you through the memory lane of a time related to such festive colors that eventually led to the making of a festival painting on canvas.

It was night and I had gone to visit the famous “Dilli Haat” in Delhi. It’s a lively place in India. You get to know a lot about Indian culture, arts and crafts at “Dilli Haat”. There are lots of memories that I have with this place but one particular memory led to the making of a painting.

The entrance of “Dilli Haat” was decorated by beautiful hues of orange and pink due to some theme that day. I saw that color combination of orange and pink and it felt like celebration, particularly Indian celebrations. It’s difficult to remember what the theme was and what I shopped that day. However, it was that color combination of orange and pink that stayed with me.

Initial planning of the festival painting on canvas:

Theme of celebration and color combination of pink & orange was final. However, still more planning was required. Finally, I came up with a layout that included some typical folk celebration elements in India.

The layout included two abstract ladies in traditional Indian attires and jewellery and a chandelier. It was all depicted in geometric style. Basically, the idea was to show two ladies dancing and celebrating in a festive environment.

The earrings of the ladies are deliberately exaggerated to create more drama. The clothes are also given the quintessential golden border to add more festivity.

Coloring the canvas:

Next was the time to paint the festival painting on canvas. I worked in several layers to get the required feel of the celebration. It was important to make the chandelier abstract yet illuminated. Also, giving the required gradation of tones in orange and pink was a challenge.

For the background, the colors and shapes in the foreground were extended in the background. When it felt just right, the painting got finished and ready to emanate the festive feelings.

Festive times:

As this painting is dedicated to all the festive times, I entitled this painting “Celebrations”. In fact, this title was already decided in the initial stages of the painting this time. “Celebrations” painting can be bought from the gallery. The happy vibes of this painting are sure to enlighten any space.
